⚡️ALFA Alert: Conservative Senators Oppose Biden's AI Diffusion Rule
This new push joins longstanding efforts of the ALFA Institute
In the final days of his presidency, Joe Biden and his administration released a rule that would severely limit the ability of American technology companies to sell their products to our allies and maintain American technological leadership on the world stage — something Vice President Vance declared in Paris would be our top priority.
It is called the AI Diffusion Rule, and by now you have heard us talk about it quite a bit.
As our chairman, Speaker McCarthy wrote earlier this year:
Drafted behind closed doors and signed in the waning days of the Biden presidency, this 41 page interim rule would impose a litany of new restrictions on American chip manufacturers seeking to export their products to our friends around the world.
Last I checked, it was considered a good thing when other countries wanted to buy what American companies were selling.
Instead, under the new Biden framework set to take effect this May, allies like Israel and Poland would find it harder to purchase cutting-edge technologies made right here in the USA, leaving them to turn to other sources for their needs; namely: China.
Now, several conservative Senators have written to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick asking him to revoke this rule, as well, ahead of the May 15 compliance deadline.

This development comes as reports indicate that Huawei is inching closer to matching the capability of leading AI infrastructure companies. America’s slim yet meaningful lead in AI is vitally important to maintain, and we cannot afford to let rules like the AI Diffusion rule trip us up.
